This blog is created basically to post my future studies and field work in the fields of coastal ecology and terrestrial ecology. Being convinced by my first degree in Environment and Marine sciences inspired me to pursue more field studies in my home country Solomon Islands. My proporsed study area will be Suafa peninsuila because it is my home and there is no difficulty in obtaining permission to do field work. Since environment is a dynamic system, it will be very interesting to be the first pioneer to conduct research study(ies) at suafa peninsuila at the northern tip of North Malaita islands. I choose this area because very soon in few years time the environment there is about to reach its carrying capacity. This implies that the pressures on resource exploitation on land and marine enviornments have increased immensely over the past decades.
Scientific studies will focus primarily on ways to sustainably, rehabilate and restore most of the degraded ecosystems in the area. This means identifying the problems and then try to work out the possible mitigative and solving approaches to address the identified problems are the prime focus of this proposed project.
The area of studies would cover:
1. Rocky shore community experiment.
2. Soft sediment community
3.Sea grasses and algae
4. Coral reef ( open and eclosed)
5. Forest restoration and conservation
6. Reserved and conserved plots
The first phase of work suppose to be implemented on the ground by end of this year 2013.
Work schedule and study proporsal have been compiled already and hopefully implementation should follow on smoothly when the right times finally comes.
